It’s about finding ways to meet current needs while preserving the planet and its resources for the long term. \nThe United Nations holds sustainability as a key to addressing many global challenges such as\, human rights\, poverty\, climate change\, resource consumption and waste. If you would like to understand more deeply about sustainability on a global scale the United Nations website has published the Sustainable Development Goals. \nWhat to expect \nAt this fun\, interactive workshops you will learn simple and effective ways to reduce resource use at home and save you money at the same time. A wonderful side effect of reducing resource consumption other than saving money\, is that it helps you tread a little more lightly on the planet. If you would like to calculate how many planets worth of resources you are consuming then why not try the online Ecological Footprint Calculator. During the workshop we will have the chance to compare some results\, many people would be surprised at the number of planets their resource consumption requires. \nEach workshop will begin with a brief introduction of what sustainability is and how it relates to our everyday lives. Then we will look at five essential areas of our lives\, food\, waste\, energy\, water and transport. By looking at these areas we will share some easy small steps to living more sustainably. DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Darebin Creek Management Committee & Friends of Darebin Creek \n  \nJoin us for a rewarding day of nature\, community and conservation as we plant native plants creating habitat for native animals along the beautiful Darebin Creek at Bundoora Park! \nWe’ll be planting a mix of shrubs\, sedges\, and rushes between the Darebin Creek and the Bundoora Public Golf Course Dam\, helping to strengthen the habitat corridor and create vital stepping stones for local wildlife. This work supports small native animals like the Eastern Spinebill\, Spotted Pardalote\, Rakali\, Growling Grass Frogs and Sugar Gliders. \nThen join Craig from Draw Plants Together for a FREE\, relaxing plant drawing workshop after the planting. Get to know the unique plants of the Darebin Creek and learn more about the natural environment through observation and drawing. You might like to bring a picnic rug or chair if you stay for this session. \n  \n\nHelp restore and enhance local biodiversity\nLearn about native plants and creek ecology\nConnect with your community and enjoy the outdoors\nBe part of a larger effort restoring a habitat hotspot\n \n\nAll are welcome—no experience needed! Come solo\, or bring your friends\, family\, and a love for nature. DESCRIPTION:Come and join in our Sustainability Festival as we seek to plant 5\,000 native grasses and salt bush at Aintree Reserve \n  \nThis National Tree Day is going to be bigger than ever with our largest community revegetation effort\, planting 5\,000 native grasses and salt bush on the rocky knoll at Aintree Reserve. And one of these liucky plants will be the 20\,000th plant planted by over 2\,000 volunteers in our Revegetation projects. \nAlso\, at this year’s event we will be hosting a Sustainability Festival with a native plant nursery\, art & craft activities\, native animal photography exhibition\, kids art display\, and food & beverages. It’s going to be massive! \nThe grassland planting starts at 9.00am for a safety briefing and planting demonstration. We do request that everyone trys to make it to site for this so we can conduct this planting day as safely as possible \nWhat to Bring: Suitable clothing for the weather\, sturdy closed in shoes/boots\, refillable water bottle\, garden gloves (optional). This is a minimum waste event. \nKids are more than wlecome to attend with adult supervision\, in fact we believe that these are fantastic events for kids to get their hands dirty\, learn about the environment\, and engage with the outdoors.

DESCRIPTION:Take part in Australia’s biggest planting on National Tree Day in the Kokoda Drive native grassland reserve in Sunbury.\n\n\nNational Tree Day\nHume City Council is again participating in Australia’s National Tree Day. Join with thousands of people around the country help to plant over one million local-native seedlings and restore the natural environment. \nA pair of Black-shouldered Kite nest in the trees near the Kokoda Drive Nature Reserve\, in Sunbury. These beautiful birds are called Thara in the Woiwurung language of the Wurundjeri people\, in the Kulin Nation. Thara have the unique ability to hover in the air as birds of prey\, when searching for small mammals\, lizards\, and insects to eat. \nThis community planting event will build on last years planitng efforts\, adding lots more wildflowers and native grasses in the north-western corner of the reserve.
